intuit: intuitive collage practice

2020-2022

Found paper, tape, stickers

The first of these collages appears in a journal from Summer 2020. Its creation was circumstantial: due to supply chain issues caused by Covid, I wasn't able to find the specific composition notebook I prefer to use for journaling, and I'd settled for a 3-subject version of my usual notebook. This version included two yellow kraft paper dividers. I didn't need the dividers for anything functional, so I arranged found paper on the page and glued it into place.

I used the same style of notebook for my next journal. I used the practice as a meditation on composition, and allowed the meanings of each work to come through in the juxtapostion of images and my word choices.

The following collages were created between July 2020 and January 2021; these collages are not individually dated.

I chose a different notebook for my following journal. This notebook had no dividers, but I collaged the inside covers and some of the interior pages. These pieces were created between January and August 2021.

I continued the practice in several different journals in 2022. These collages are situated within the flow of my journal entires, making it easier to date them accurately, sometimes to the day.
